SolarEdge (SEDG): Watch the recovery, but do not underwrite it as proven yet.

SolarEdge has moved from crisis stabilization to a credible revenue and margin recovery. The stock, at roughly $60 after a sharp rebound, already needs Q2 and Q3 evidence that gross margin and adjusted earnings can hold without fragile policy, channel, or incentive support.

Investment verdict: watchlist, not a good growth investment now.

Executive answer. What matters is whether SolarEdge can turn a post-destocking rebound into durable adjusted earnings and cash flow. The stock now discounts a mid-2026 recovery before the strongest evidence is in.

Decision hinge. Q2 and Q3 must show revenue near or above guidance, non-GAAP gross margin in the mid-20s, no new inventory/warranty pressure, and a path from adjusted operating breakeven to adjusted earnings per share.

What would change the view. Upgrade the posture if Q2 revenue clears the $340m midpoint, Q3 guidance supports the full-year consensus, and management demonstrates ex-credit margin quality. Downgrade it if revenue stalls, gross margin falls back below 20%, or free cash flow turns working-capital dependent.

Growth-Investment Scorecard

The score is a research-priority label, not a recommendation. SolarEdge gets credit for recovery momentum and net-cash liquidity, but not for durable growth quality yet.

Revenue growth

Recovery is real, but H2 must average above the Q2 guide to meet consensus.

Earnings growth

Adjusted EPS is near breakeven in 2026 and still not GAAP-clean.

Durability

Channel, policy, and residential end-market visibility remain thin.

Margin quality

AMPTC, mix, warranty, and utilization make gross margin the key audit item.

Cash generation

Free cash flow has turned positive, but working capital and tax-credit monetization matter.

Balance sheet

Net cash helps, yet convert mechanics and stock awards are material.

Valuation

The stock already discounts a recovery at roughly mid-2x 2026 revenue.

Competitive position

Strong brand and architecture, but Enphase and other power-electronics peers remain aggressive.

Market timing

Global solar grows, while the U.S. residential cycle and policy setup are still uneven.

What The Company Does

SolarEdge sells smart energy technology for photovoltaic systems. Its core architecture pairs direct-current power optimizers with inverters and monitoring software, then extends into batteries, electric vehicle charging, energy management, grid services, and virtual power plant capabilities.

The business depends on installers, distributors, wholesalers, and engineering, procurement, and construction customers. That channel exposure matters because the 2023-2024 downturn was amplified by distributor inventory, weak residential demand, and poor visibility into end-customer sell-through.

Evidence label: verified fact for product scope from company filings and Q1 release; analyst judgment for channel-risk interpretation.

Market fit

The setup is cyclical recovery plus product optionality.

Global solar capacity keeps growing, but the most important stock question is narrower: can SolarEdge regain margin and earnings power in residential and commercial power electronics while policy rules, domestic-content requirements, and inverter competition remain unsettled?

Long-Term Growth Expectations And Growth Products

Core recovery

Optimizers and inverters

These remain the volume engine. Q1 recognized revenue from about 50.5 thousand inverters and 2.4 million optimizers. The recovery case requires sustained sell-through, not only channel refill.

Attach-rate upside

Batteries and home energy

Q1 recognized 331 MWh of batteries for photovoltaic applications. Better battery attach could support mix and customer value, but gross margin and warranty performance need proof.

Not yet underwritable

Nexis and AI data-center power

Management is rolling out the SolarEdge Nexis platform and advancing an AI data-center power roadmap. Treat those as options until customer adoption, backlog, and margin contribution are visible.

Long-term growth expectations: Fiscal.ai consensus revenue grows from $1.39b in 2026E to $1.69b in 2028E, a high-single-digit to low-teens recovery path after the 2024-2025 trough.

Market Fit And Cycle Position

Global tailwind

Solar is still adding capacity.

The IEA reported 2025 global renewable capacity additions of roughly 800 GW, with solar supplying more than three-quarters of additions. That supports the long-term category, but not every solar equipment stock equally.

U.S. market uneven

Residential demand is not clean.

SEIA/Wood Mackenzie reported Q1 2026 U.S. solar installations down 27% year over year. Residential improved 6% year over year but declined 15% sequentially, which fits a recovery with fragile timing.

Stock timing risk

The rerate came before the proof.

Fiscal.ai shows SEDG at 2.4x NTM enterprise value to sales and a 64.5x NTM price-to-earnings ratio. That is not a distressed valuation once earnings recovery is assumed.

Eight-Quarter Revenue And Earnings Charts

These are the past six reported quarters plus two future quarters. Revenue uses GAAP reported revenue for actuals, Q2 company guidance midpoint, and Q3 Fiscal.ai consensus. Earnings uses non-GAAP adjusted earnings per share because consensus earnings are adjusted; GAAP net income remains loss-making.

RevenueVisible labels show year-over-year growth
Adjusted Earnings Per ShareVisible labels show year-over-year earnings change

Q2 earnings is a company-guidance run-rate because management guides revenue, non-GAAP gross margin, and non-GAAP operating expense, but not earnings per share. Q3 earnings is Fiscal.ai consensus.

Growth Estimates Consensus

The three-year growth estimates consensus comes from Fiscal.ai estimate data. It is useful for framing the market's recovery path, but it is not a substitute for a full model.

Revenue ConsensusNext three fiscal years
Adjusted EPS ConsensusNext three fiscal years

2026E reset

Consensus revenue of $1.39b and adjusted EPS of $0.03 imply the market is looking through near-term GAAP losses.

2027E proof year

Consensus adjusted EPS steps to $1.57. That is the earnings bridge the stock needs Q2 and Q3 to validate.

2028E normalization

Consensus revenue reaches $1.69b and adjusted EPS reaches $2.36, still below prior-cycle peak earnings power.

Competitive Comparison

SEDG's most direct public comparison is Enphase. First Solar, Shoals, Nextpower, and Array are useful solar-equipment read-throughs, but their product position and end-market exposure differ enough that valuation comparisons need a haircut.

Product position

SEDG and ENPH compete most directly in residential power electronics. FSLR is a utility-scale module manufacturer; SHLS, NXT, and ARRY are better for solar capex sentiment than direct product economics.

Past growth

SEDG's three-year revenue compound annual growth is -27.9%, reflecting the severe 2023-2024 reset. Several utility-scale peers have cleaner recent growth and margin profiles.

Valuation

SEDG's 2.4x NTM EV/sales multiple is below Enphase but above lower-margin tracker peers. That valuation only works if margins and earnings recover.

Valuation And Decision Hinge

This is a valuation map, not a target price. It uses basic shares and company-reported net cash/investments, and it does not fully model convert settlement, capped-call economics, future stock awards, or GAAP-to-non-GAAP reconciliation.

ScenarioRevenue baseEV / revenueImplied equity valueImplied value / share
Downside reset

Base recovery
2026 consensus revenue is achieved but profit proof remains partial.
$1.39b 2.0x $3.02b $50
Current-price band

$1.39b 2.5x $3.71b $61
Clean upside
2027 growth and positive adjusted earnings become credible.
$1.56b 3.0x $4.92b $81
Downside

$30s can happen without a demand collapse.

A slower H2, gross margin below 20%, or renewed warranty/inventory charges can move the stock back toward low-recovery revenue multiples.

Current price

$60 already embeds recovery.

At the current price, the market is paying for more than 2026 consensus revenue. It needs evidence that 2027 adjusted EPS is credible.

Upside

Upside requires clean earnings proof.

The upside case is not just revenue. It requires Nexis/storage traction, mid-20s gross margin, lower exclusions, and no dilution surprise.

Capital Stack And Dilution Checks

Basic shares outstanding60.8mFiscal.ai and Q1 filing share base.
Unvested RSUs and PSUs5.2mMaterial per-share overhang before any formal target-price work.
2029 convertible principal$337.0mConversion price is about $34.32, based on 29.1375 shares per $1,000 principal.
Potential conversion shares9.8mCapped calls offset dilution only up to the cap price. The stock is above that cap.
Company net cash/investments$246.2mUseful liquidity support, but not enough to ignore dilution and commitments.
Needs model work

Share count is not a footnote.

The formal ownership case should use a fully diluted share count, modeled convert settlement, and explicit treatment of capped calls. Without that, any target price would look cleaner than the capital stack really is.

Good Growth Investment: Yes If / No If / Watch Next

Yes if

Q2 revenue is at or above midpoint, Q3 guide supports full-year consensus, non-GAAP gross margin stays in the mid-20s, and adjusted operating profit turns positive without rising exclusions.

No if

Revenue stalls after policy and channel timing, gross margin falls below 20%, cash flow reverses, or the company needs new restructuring, warranty, or inventory charges.

Watch next

Q2 print, Q3 guide, Nexis sell-through, battery attach, AMPTC credit monetization, distributor inventory, convert/dilution math, and CFO transition execution.

Risks And Disconfirming Evidence

Gross margin is lower quality than it looks. AMPTC, product mix, manufacturing utilization, tariffs, and warranty reserve movements can make reported margin less durable than the headline.
Demand was pulled forward or channel-led. Management says Q1 and Q2 guidance do not include significant one-time pull-forward, but the real test is Q3 and Q4 sell-through after policy deadlines and channel normalization.
Policy support is complicated. Domestic-content thresholds, FEOC rules, Section 45X, Section 48E, and Section 25D timing can affect both customer demand and SolarEdge manufacturing economics.
Competition remains intense. Enphase and other inverter, storage, and energy-management competitors can pressure price, attach rates, installer loyalty, and product-cycle timing.
Valuation and dilution can overwhelm operational progress. A high multiple, convertible note mechanics, capped-call limits, and stock-based awards can reduce per-share upside even if operating metrics improve.

Catalysts And Monitoring Items

Q2 2026 results
Breakeven test. Need revenue around or above $340m, non-GAAP gross margin in the 23%-27% range, and non-GAAP operating expense discipline.
Q3 2026 guide
H2 ramp test. To meet 2026 consensus, H2 revenue needs to average roughly $368m per quarter.
Nexis and storage traction
Growth product test. Watch installer adoption, geographic rollout, battery attach, warranty signals, and whether the new product set lifts mix.
AMPTC monetization
Cash and margin test. Separate cash credit timing from underlying manufacturing gross margin.
CFO transition
Execution test. Maoz Sigron became CFO effective May 31, 2026. The market needs steady financial communication during the recovery.

Unresolved conflicts

Yahoo close implies a $3.66b market value at $60.19, while Fiscal.ai's overview implies $60.80 per share and $3.70b market value. The report uses Yahoo for the timestamped quote and Fiscal.ai for normalized valuation multiples.

Major assumptions

United States dollars are used throughout. SolarEdge reports in United States dollars, so no exchange rate conversion was needed. Valuation cases use basic shares, $246.2m company net cash/investments, and do not fully model convert settlement or capped-call economics.

Open evidence requests

Need direct sell-side consensus export, product-level margin, Nexis sell-through, battery attach by geography, warranty reserve bridge, AMPTC sale schedule, customer concentration, and a fully diluted capital-structure model.

Final underwriting status: preliminary watchlist underwrite. Evidence confidence: medium-high for reported financials, medium for market and estimate data. This is not a buy recommendation or formal target-price report.
